Welcome to Week One of The Hotline - the new MGS:TUS feature, where you ask and we answer.
It's Wednesday, no need to worry, this week Arsenal-Gear and FinalFantasy7 will save your time and clear your mind.

Name: Brian

Question 1:
Will MGS3 Tie in all the "knots" from MGS and MGS2?

FF7: MGS 3 is supposed to tie up all the 3 games with one single unified theme that brings it all together. It is supposed to close the trilogy. But the big question is how will HK answer what snake and Raiden will do after MGS2 and what happens to Olga's baby if MGS 3 is a total prequel. We will find this out soon once we play the game. But personally I don’t think every question we had in MGS2 will be answered completely. Hideo Kojima has always left loose ends and I expect him to do the same when it comes to MGS 3.

Question 2: Are there going to be other Downloadable things besides Camo Skins?

FF7: I think there is a high possibility for other downloads. Because Hideo Kojima has not said it is just new camos that you can download. I expect there to be mini games (snake Vs. Ape style), new weapons, and new areas and guard camo changing patches available for download. Other than FF12, no other PS2 game has put the HDD to good use. So I expect Hideo Kojima and his team to have some very innovative things for download.

Name: Brent Cameron"Lost_Soldier"

Question 1:
The camo in the MGS3 demo can be stained with Mud and blood but it gets "clean" when you enter a new area or
change camos and change back. Will this be different in the final version?

FF7: I expect it to be different in the final version. Hideo Kojima mentioned on how you can wash the camos in rain and in the streams, so if the stains don’t carry over to the next area this feature is quite useless. Keep in mind that the OPM demo was made when the game was 40% done and many features (like cure) were disabled in it. So it’s quite likely in the final version for the stains on your camos to be still there when you go to a different area.

Question 1:
Will there be a pc version of metal gear solid twin snakes?

FF7: …no. But even if they did why would you want that on your PC? Twin Snakes is a Nintendo exclusive, don’t expect it to be playable on any product not owned by Nintendo.

Question 2: Will Hideo Kojima abandon the series after mgs3?

FF7: “Abandon” is not the right word. He will still be the producer of the future MG games and will look over the projects of the Metal Gear games. But then again Twin Snakes was “supervised” by Hideo Kojima and we all know how well that turned out… </Sarcasm> MGS3 is supposed to be the last MG game he will be directing, but he said the same thing after doing MGS2. So there is a possibility of Hideo Kojima returning to direct a new Metal Gear games if MGA and MGO do not turn out as well as expected.

Name: Craig Demko

Question 1:
Will MGS3 have the usual auto-aim feature??? I hope so, it feels awkward playing the demo without auto aim and
running up to a soldier and shooting all around him and not hitting him until you enter FPV.

FF7: Quite likely not, because in MGS 2 it was easy to place an auto aim feature because 95% of the time in the game it was just the guards or a boss you would be shooting at. But in MGS3 all this changes. We have animals, items and guards to shoot at, so having an auto aim would prove to be very difficult. Just think of the frustration when you try to auto aim and shoot a guard only to realize that the gun was being aimed at the rat on the ground. The amount to living things you can shoot in each area seems to make it too hard to implement an auto aim feature. Think of this as a new challenge.

Question 1:
Is the Johnny Sasaki in MGS1 a genome soldier? If he is, how do you explain he is a direct descendant of the
Johnny Sasaki in the MGS3 trailer?

FF7: Actually Johnny Sasaki does not have to be a genome soldier, because many new soldiers were transferred over to Shadow Moses to replace the genome soldiers who did not show up on the day it was taken over. The genome soldiers who did not want to take part of the up rise did not show up, so they were replaced by some other guards. Once the up rise took place it appears that Liquid Snake gave the regular soldiers a chance to be part of the up rise also. Because Meryl says she was thrown in the cell because she did not want to be part of the up rise. So this means that Johnny Sasaki might be a regularsolider who decided to join the up rise so he would not be thrown in a cell just like Meryl.

Name: Otacon

Question 1:
Is vamp still alive?

FF7:
Yes, Vamp appears to be still alive at end of MGS2. You can notice him beside a car in the background when snake is taking a look at Raiden’s dog tag.

Name: Unit-Foxhound

Question 1:
ok. where is meryl??!?!

FF7:
I assume that your question refers to the fact that Meryl was not present in MGS2. In MGS2 after the boss fight with Olga, if you call up Otacon you will hear snake tell that he had “enough of tomboys.” This shows that things did not exactly turn out perfect between snake and Meryl, so they possible went there own different ways. But it is unknown why Hideo Kojima totally eliminated Meryl from the main storyline.

“Otacon: She's not dead, is she?
Snake: No, just knocked out.
Otacon: Good.
Snake: Looks like a little angel, doesn't she?
Otacon: What's gotten into you?
Snake: Nothing.
Otacon: Sleeping Beauty may have been awakened by Prince Charming's kiss, but you'd better not try it here.
Snake: I'm with you. Besides, I've had enough of tomboys.”

Question 1:
Why did Ocelot sewed Liquid's arm to himself?

AG:
Liquid would beg to differ -- according to him, he "chose Ocelot as [his] host." How, you may ask, would a dead man be able to choose who his arm is attached to? Ah, the mysteries of Kojima. Solidus says that he paid for the arm to be attached in Lyon. But why, of all the corpses in the world, would they have chosen Liquid Snake's arm? I see it as a metaphorical ploy by Kojima. Liquid is the yang to Solid Snake's yin, Snake continues to live, because as he says "there are still too many things [he] need[s] to do." Do the dominant genes of Big Boss need to exist in order to bring destruction and chaos, and to challenge the recessive genes? Not only is this the ultimate struggle between good and evil, but in a non literal way, it's an internal struggle within Big Boss himself. After all, Solid and Liquid represent the yin and yang of Big Boss. But I'm going off on a tangent. I think Kojima wanted Liquid to still exist, and he thought, "what better and more bizzare way than to force him to live through another character?" Maybe we'll find out in a future installment for sure.

Question 2: Is it true, that you can find Solid Snake's copse in Silent Hill 3?

FF7:
This is a rumor that started few weeks before the SH3 release, but was put to rest once the game came out. No, Solid Snake copse is not in Silent Hill 3 or any other Silent Hill game for that matter.

Question 3: Why Solidus did looked much older than his brothers?

FF7:
This is one of the unexplained questions in MGS2 that we can only assume the answer. The lines by the President suggest
that Solidus was created after Solid and Liquid were cloned. So why exactly does he look older than Snake and Liquid? There are 2 possible answers for this. One is that Solidus is suffering from severe accelerated aging, which is a side effect of cloning. The second answer is that Solidus was internally made to age quicker to reach his “prime age” faster. He was supposed to be a well balanced master-piece just like Big Boss. So to make this happen they might have tried to get him to the age when Big Boss was at his best. Either way, the only thing that can really answer this is that Solidus is aging faster than he should, just like Solid Snake.

Question 1:
Do you think that mgs3 will only come out for the ps2?

AG:
No, I do not. I think after MGS3's one year exclusivity on the PS2, we'll be seeing it on other systems. Konami has spent millions on MGS3, while we don't know the exact price tag, I would assume it's comparable to the MGS2 budget (a whopping $10 million). MGS is one of the biggest third party games out there. Big first party games like Halo and Super Smash Bros. don't need to be profitable -- the key with those types of games is to lure consumers to their respective consoles. The problem, then, that exists with third party games of such high production costs, is -- "how do we make profit off of the game?" The answer with MGS2 was obvious -- multiple releases. Sons of Liberty, the Document of MGS2, Substance (for PS2, Xbox, and the PC); that's a lot of iterations. I think MGS3 will follow a similar model. For one year, it will be exclusive to the PS2, and thereafter it will be on other consoles. Substance on Xbox sold 250k copies (which is pretty damn good for a year old game with extras that already sold 2 million in the U.S.), so my money's on an "MGS3 Integral" on the Xbox, maybe PS2 as well. Maybe we'll even get lucky and see a "Document of MGS3" somewhere down the line. I have no facts to back this up, but history has shown that Konami has no problems re-releasing on other systems (both MGS1 and 2 have gotten the PC treatment), so I would say it's a pretty good probability MGS3 will be no different.

Question 1:
Will the loading sections of the game be as long as the loading sections in the demo for MGS3 or faster?

AG:
No worries, the real game will load much quicker. Many people who have played the game at trade shows have said the loading is nowhere near the horror of the demo. Remember, when they code game demos, all the code from every game has to be crammed onto one disc in a relatively short amount of time. This leads to sloppy coding, and the biggest side effect has traditionally been horrible load times. Expect the real game to load smoothly.

Question 2: Is mgs3 longer or shorter than mgs1 and mgs2?

AG:
Good question. Best guess: longer than SOL. The sheer amount of bosses we've seen suggests a longer game. Secondly, camo use significantly lengthens the play time. The first time I played through the demo, it took about 10 minutes. I used the run and gun tactic, and blasted through the levels, barely surviving. After getting used to the camo and CQC manuevers, I tried a different approach -- hiding. This significantly lengthened the experience; I'd estimate it took me about 40 minutes to beat the demo using these tactics!

So, to answer your question, like with previous MGS games, it depends on how you play it. If run-and-gun is your thing, I'dexpect a 10-15 hour experience, similar to SOL. God only knows how long your first play through will be if you take your time, enjoy the environment, and use all the new items and tactics at your disposal!

Question 3: Will there be a sequel to metal gear other than metal gear acid, for instance will there be a metal gear 4?

FF7:
Yes. Hideo Kojima said that Metal Gear series will continue on into the future in some form. Metal Gear Solid 3 is the
end of the Solid Trilogy, but we still have MGA and Metal Gear Online to look forward too. Plus I doubt Konami would stop making sequels to one of it’s top selling franchise. But unfotunatly, Metal Gear Solid 3 will be last Metal Gear game Hideo Kojima will direct. But with luck he might change his mind in the future and return to make a new Metal Gear trilogy.

Name: Maxx

Question 1:
Does the Metal Gear Acid plotline take place in the same canon plotline of the metal gear and metal gear solid games?

FF7:
It is yet to be announced if the story is in an “alternate universe” or same time-line as current Metal gear games. But I am bit skeptical about it being the same timeline due to the fact that Solid Snake looks much younger than he is supposed to be in 2016. But I really doubt your question will be answered until you play the actual game.

Name: Esa "Solide18" Lehti

Question 1:
Is it true that Raiden do not have his own blood in MGS2?

FF7: Yes, it’s true. At start of the Planet Chapter Colonel mentioned that Raiden’s blood has been drained and has been replaced with artificial blood.
“Colonel: You're currently using artificial blood primed with nanomachines.
Raiden: What did you do with my own blood?
Colonel: It's being kept in cold storage. It will be circulated back into your body when you return.

Question 2: Is it true that the "Skull suit" has it's own blood and Raiden uses that?

FF7: No, nothing in the game suggest that Raiden’s blood is in his suit. As you can tell, Raiden’s blood has been totally drained, while the artificial blood was placed in him.

“Your new Sneaking suit uses electrofiber technology, a by-product of fiber-optics research. The texture isn’t far removed from rubber but the material protects against a wide range of toxic substances. The suit itself has a wide array of built-in sensors. It is referred to as “Smart Skin” in military R&D. Data about damage to different regions of the body, including blood loss, is exchanged between the suit and the intravenous nanomachines to create a bio-feedback system.”

Question 1:
When is the mgs3 demo coming out?

FF7: The demo is widely available now in the Official US Playstation Magazine. As many of the UK fans have been wondering, will they even get the MGS3 demo that US OPM buyers will get? It turns out that UK Official Playstation Magazine will also be having the same demo US OPM has promised. But it is yet to be known which issue of the magazine will contain the demo. We will let you know once we get more information about this.

Question 2: When is the official release date on mgs3?

AG: JPN = December 16th 2004 (Official date)
NTSC = Mid-November 2004 (Projected date)
PAL = March 2005 (Estimate)
