REVISE,.. for Super Smash Bros. Brawl ( Link )

In a surprise announcement by Nintendo, it was announced that Solid Snake would be making an appearance as a character in the upcoming Wii title, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Directed by Masahiro Sakurai, former HAL Laboratories employee and creator of Kirby and the Super Smash Bros. series, is in charge of creating SSBB. According to him, Mr. Kojima is a fan of the series and had previously requested that Snake be included in the previous Melee title. However, due to development time constraints, Snake's inclusion had to be held off.

Interestingly, this marks Solid Snake's second appearance into the multiplayer fighting arena, as he
was previously included as a playable character in "DreamMix TV: World Fighters" alongside the likes
of characters such as Optimus Prime and Simon Belmont.

Considering the style of Smash Bros., Mr. Sakurai also mentioned that Snake would not be using any type of pistol or rifle in the game, although he could employ the use of bombs or a rocket launcher.

Not much else is known at this time about how Snake will play a part in the game, but on a related note, Mr. Shigeru Miyamoto mentioned at the expo that various other non-Nintendo characters could find their way into the game. Currently, a character request page is available to fans on the Japanese website for Super Smash Bros. Brawl. ( Link )

Also, for those interested in learning more about the development process behind the latest installment to the Super Smash Bros. franchise, Mr. Sakurai was recently a guest on The Kojima Productions Report and spoke with Ryan Payton about his involvement with Nintendo.
